Analysis of 'Cold Water' Music Video

This music video by 'Frances' was very influential to for our music video, as we also wanted a split screen effect. It was also suggested to us after our pitch that during the split screen, we should pass objects between the two frames to make it more interesting- this is a very good example of how impressive it can look!

I like how most of the video shows one side as inside, with artificial lighting, and the other half is of the band, or other members outside with natural lighting. I also like how the two separate locations allow diversity, (we will portray two different bedrooms) for different editing techniques, e.g. rotating of the shot. My favourite element was the heads being met in the middle over the split screen! I think it is good that it isn’t perfectly matched, and rough around the edges as it shows more about the band, also because it is live filming, where we are shooting ours using stop motion- two shots per frame.

Another influence was the synching straight after each other on the opposite frame, for example, if the drums were being played on the right, the next show on the left frame would be the same shot- in our music video we have planned a morning routine where the couple will be doing the same thing, just at different intervals, for example, brushing their teeth.

The effect the two different keyboards have is very simplistic but effective, like a symbol of old and new. There is a lot happening in the video which is reflected in the happy, energetic lyrics- We have discussed that our video will not be this busy as it will obviously be set in one room, also the lyrics are calm, slower and soft.
